NARAL Pro-Choice America Responds to the Outcome of the Race in Florida’s 16th Congressional District

Florida Today, state Representative Margaret Good, a tireless advocate for women and families in Florida, narrowly lost her race to flip Florida’s 16th Congressional District and unseat anti-choice, anti-freedom incumbent Rep. Vern Buchanan.

In response, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement:

“While we had hoped to see a different outcome in this race, NARAL Pro-Choice America and our members will never stop fighting for the 77% of Americans who believe in the legal right to abortion. There’s no question that Rep. Buchanan’s record on reproductive freedom is wildly out of touch with the views of the vast majority of Americans. We are proud to have stood with Margaret Good as she gave Rep. Buchanan a run for their money in this tight race.”

Rep. Buchanan has consistently earned a 0% score from NARAL Pro-Choice America. His extreme record includes votes to ban health coverage for abortion care, defund Planned Parenthood, and rescind Title X protections that provide millions of low-income individuals with access to affordable family planning services.

In the 2020 election cycle, NARAL Pro-Choice America ran its largest-ever electoral program designed to reach, persuade, and mobilize key voters in target states across the country who are motivated by Trump and Republicans’ unyielding attacks on reproductive freedom.
