NARAL Pro-Choice America Responds to Vice President Kamala Harris Hosting Roundtable in Indiana Ahead of Special Session to Ban Abortion

Washington, DC Today, Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a roundtable with Indiana state legislators to discuss the fight to safeguard reproductive freedom as the state begins its special session to ban abortion. Indiana’s special session is the first convened in order to ban abortion in the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:

“The dividing line has never been clearer: Indiana Republicans are hellbent on banning abortion, causing untold harm to millions while Vice President Harris and Democratic state lawmakers are working together to ensure people can access the care they need in the state they call home. We need more champions for our rights in office, and in November, we can make that happen.”

The Supreme Court’s cruel decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization opened the door for extremist state lawmakers to enforce extreme bans on abortion. Roughly half of the states in the country are at risk of banning abortion, and thus far, 13 states have bans in place. The people hurt most by these bans and restrictions are those who already face barriers to accessing abortion care—including women; Black, Indigenous, and other people of color; those working to make ends meet; the LGBTQ+ community; immigrants; young people; those living in rural communities; and people with disabilities.
