NARAL Pro-Choice America Condemns Michigan Attorney General Nominee Matt DePerno’s Comments on Banning Plan B

Michigan — Today, anti-choice extremist and Republican nominee for Michigan attorney general Matt DePerno was caught on tape saying Plan B, a safe and effective form of emergency contraception, should be banned, as reported by the Heartland Signal. When questioned, DePerno said, “What’s plan B?” and then continued to compare it to fentanyl, a drug responsible for countless deaths yearly. “You have to stop it at the border. It would be no different than fentanyl,” said DePerno. NARAL Pro-Choice America has endorsed incumbent Dana Nessel for Attorney General, a proven champion for abortion access and reproductive rights.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:

“The anti-choice GOP never intended to stop at ending Roe, and Matt DePerno’s admission that he wants to end emergency contraception should put us all on high alert. Make no mistake: if elected, Matt DePerno’s policies would put the lives and well-being of countless Michiganders in danger. DePerno and other MAGA Republicans are far out of step with the majority of Michigan voters, and come Election Day, they’ll turn out and prove it by re-electing Attorney General Dana Nessel.”
