NARAL Pro-Choice America Honors Speaker Pelosi Following Announcement

Washington, DC Today, Rep. Nancy Pelosi—the first woman to wield the Speaker’s gavel—announced her plans to step down from leadership.

In response to this announcement, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“From passing the Affordable Care Act to leading the House as it passed the Women’s Health Protection Act to protect abortion rights after Texas’ vigilante-enforced abortion ban went into effect to passing it again after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Speaker Pelosi’s legacy is extraordinary. We owe so much to Speaker Pelosi, and we’re grateful for her work fighting for our fundamental rights and reproductive freedom throughout her historic career. We look forward to working with a new generation of leaders in our fight to defend and rebuild reproductive freedom at the federal level, and we are grateful that Speaker Pelosi will remain in Congress to advise and support the transition.”
