Washington, DC — This week, the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) released an opinion that will continue to allow the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mifepristone and misoprostol, the medications used in medication abortion care. The opinion specified that doing so is not a violation of the Comstock Act.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“This opinion is another step forward in expanding and protecting access. It is a big deal—and it’s worth celebrating. We’re grateful that the Biden administration is exploring every tool at its disposal as we face urgent threats to reproductive freedom. ”
For over 50 years, NARAL Pro-Choice America has fought to protect and advance reproductive freedom at the federal and state levels—including access to abortion care, birth control, pregnancy and post-partum care, and paid family leave—for every body. NARAL is powered by its 4 million members from every state and congressional district in the country, representing the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion.
