Washington, DC Today, the Kentucky Supreme Court denied a request from the ACLU, ACLU of Kentucky, and Planned Parenthood to block two abortion bans that went into effect in the state last year. This means that abortion care continues to be banned in the state, forcing patients to travel long distances in order to access care. Today’s decision also comes after the midterms, where Kentucky voters rejected an anti-choice ballot measure that would have amended the state constitution to ban abortion permanently.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“Once again, a court stacked with anti-choice extremists has made a sweeping attack on reproductive freedom, continuing to block Kentuckians from accessing abortion care. This unconscionable decision is a slap in the face to Kentucky voters, who only three months ago rejected a constitutional amendment that would have allowed a permanent ban on abortion in their state. NARAL will never stop working alongside our partners to restore abortion access in the state and will continue to hold accountable those who are trampling our rights and freedoms at every turn.”
