NARAL Pro-Choice America Denounces Wyoming Abortion Bans
Wyoming has become the first state to explicitly ban medication abortion
Washington, DC — On Friday, anti-choice Gov. Mark Gordon signed a bill into law in Wyoming to ban medication abortion with criminal penalties for providers and allowed a total ban on abortion to go into effect without his signature. This ban on medication abortion, the most common form of abortion care in the country, is the first of its kind to be signed into law.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“These abortion bans should alarm everybody in every corner of our country. There’s no stone that anti-choice extremists will leave unturned as they seek to do everything they can to ensure that abortion is banned across the nation. This first-of-its-kind ban on medication abortion, as well as the total ban, are just the latest proof. Anti-choice Republicans don’t care if real people are harmed—they only care about banning all abortion, everywhere.”
Already, 17 states and counting are enforcing bans on abortion since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. A Trump-appointed judge will also soon hand down a ruling in a lawsuit that threatens to effectively ban medication abortion with mifepristone in every state in the country—including states that protect abortion access. This medication is the first of two pills used in a medication abortion and is also used for life-saving miscarriage care.
