The bill is the first to restrict interstate travel for abortion since the Dobbs decision

Boise, ID — Today, the Idaho State Legislature passed a measure blocking minors from traveling out of the state to access abortion care (HB 242). The bill would also criminalize anyone who helps them access the care they need. The bill now heads to Republican Governor Brad Little, who is expected to sign it.

The bill is the first to restrict interstate travel for abortion since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, marking an escalation in efforts to control Americans’ freedom to decide.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:

“We have a responsibility to keep young people safe, and this bill does nothing but put them at risk. This is a clear and dangerous escalation of anti-choice extremists’ push to block all abortion care in every state, and our families will continue to suffer the consequences. Our children deserve better.”
