NARAL Pro-Choice America Lauds Biden-Harris Administration Actions to Protect Patient Privacy for Abortion

Washington, DC Today, the Biden-Harris administration announced new efforts to protect the privacy of those seeking abortion and other reproductive health care. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced new rulemaking regarding HIPAA to protect the private health information of patients across the United States and help ensure that providers can give their patients information about care without fear of criminalization or retaliation. The U.S. Department of Education has also issued guidance to help students understand their rights, and the Federal Communications Commission released a guide on protecting data amid anti-choice extremists’ efforts to surveil and punish people for abortion care.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:

“Your conversations with your doctor and your decisions about reproductive health care—including abortion care—are your own business, no one else’s. Now more than ever, we need our leaders to do everything in their power to protect access to abortion, and we’re grateful to the Biden-Harris administration for stepping up to defend our rights.”
