WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, May 17, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA. Last month, the Supreme Court issued an emergency stay on a lower court’s decision reversing the drug’s two-decade FDA approval. The stay will remain in place as this case moves through the appeals process.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:

“We cannot and will not allow Trump-appointed judges and anti-abortion extremists to push a backdoor abortion ban through our courts without a fight. That’s why NARAL and our 4 million members are mobilizing against this dangerous attack on our most fundamental freedoms—and we won’t back down. We’re channeling our anger into action and calling on the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion to sign the People’s Petition. Everyone who is outraged that our rights are once again being decided by anti-abortion judges can join us in fighting for access and calling on the lower courts to reverse their baseless decisions.”

In response to the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA ruling blocking the FDA approval of mifepristone, NARAL Pro-Choice America and partners across the progressive movement launched the People’s Petition to mobilize against lower courts’ baseless rulings and fight to protect reproductive freedom for all.
