Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) is the first Indian American woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is also the first woman to represent Washington’s 7th District in Congress, and the first Asian American to represent Washington state at the federal level.
Rep. Jayapal is a champion for reproductive freedom. She is a co-sponsor of the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH) Act and the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA). Rep. Jayapal leads the Health Equity and Access under the Law (HEAL) for Immigrant Women and Families Act in the House of Representatives, which supports access to health care for immigrant communities.
