Gender Justice

Reproductive freedom is a critical component of gender justice. NARAL Pro-Choice America believes that every body, regardless of gender, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation, must be able to live free from gender-based discrimination and oppression. Gender justice is intersectional and, in our fight to achieve gender equity, we join with our progressive allies to combat homophobia, transphobia, racism, xenophobia, ableism, classism, ageism, religious intolerance, and other forms of inequity and injustice. We understand and recognize that most, if not all, people experience oppression not in isolation, but as intersecting forms of oppression and violence.

The continual harm perpetrated by white patriarchy on women and girls is experienced disproportionately by Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and other communities of color; LGBTQ people; people with low incomes; people with disabilities; immigrants; and people with multiple marginalized identities. Gender-based discrimination and oppression is experienced in many forms, including but not limited to economic inequity, sexual and gender-based violence, and reproductive oppression. Attacks – political, social, economic, and physical – continue, from pay inequity to violence and harassment to the criminalization of people’s lives.

NARAL Pro-Choice America is committed to gender justice and supports policies that work toward true equity for every body, including support for decriminalizing sex work, particularly combatting sex workers’ experience of intersecting forms of marginalization, oppression, and violence; workplace equity, from pay equity to fair and safe workplaces; ending sexual harassment, assault, and many other forms of gender-based violence; equal treatment in schools and enforcement of Title IX protections; and a care infrastructure that supports caregivers and ensures affordable, quality childcare.
