In January 2018, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, and anti-choice Republicans failed to pass a ban on abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. This effort was the latest scheme by the GOP to chip away at Roe v. Wade, and get close to their ultimate goal of outlawing abortion outright.
This specific threat to reproductive rights started in October 2017 at the height of CHIP renewal, Puerto Rico, and widespread gun violence. Instead of working on solutions for these pressing matters, this showed the priorities of the GOP: to control women’s lives, bodies, and futures.
Dedicated NARAL members fought back and stopped this dangerous, unconstitutional abortion ban from moving forward. Over 45,000 petition signatures and letters were sent and thousands of calls made to Congress to reject the abortion ban. Our movement once again showed that we are stronger and louder than anti-choice extremism.
