After news broke of columnist Kevin Williamson’s hiring to The Atlantic, outcry of opposition and outrage rose. Based on Williamson’s dangerous and bigot sentiments, including calling for women who’ve had an abortion to be hanged, NARAL Pro-Choice America launched our campaign to #FireKevin immediately.
His history of misogynistic, racist, extreme, and outrageous claims had no business being normalized by a reputable media outlet like The Atlantic:
In the course of a week, more than 20,000 NARAL members from across the country made it clear to The Atlantic and Kevin Williamson that there’s zero tolerance for a person with racist and misogynistic views to have national platform provided by The Atlantic. Justifying his action as being merely controversial and ignoring the dangerous actions emboldened by Williamson’s sentiments is simply wrong.
This is another clear example of our movement coming together and standing up for the rights and respect we deserve.
