How Policymakers Can Improve Women’s Access to Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception (EC) holds tremendous potential for reducing the number of unintended pregnancies. Since the FDA first approved the emergency contraceptive Plan B® in 1999, there has been a tenuous path toward improved access. In order to realize EC’s full potential to prevent unintended pregnancy, policymakers need to take several additional steps.

Everyone should be able to decide if, when, how, and with whom they start or grow a family.
