Representative Nikema Williams

Representative Nikema Williams (GA-05) is the first woman to represent Georgia’s 5th Congressional District. A tireless advocate for civil rights and reproductive freedom, Williams was representing Georgia’s 39th State Senate District before she was chosen to replace the late Congressman John Lewis on the ballot for the 2020 election.

Throughout her career in advocacy and public service, Williams has made reproductive freedom and equitable healthcare access a priority. Before running for elected office, she served as vice president for public policy at Planned Parenthood Southeast — further proof of her commitment to protecting and expanding access to abortion.

As state Senator, Williams fought tirelessly in opposition to an extreme ban on abortion that attempted to outlaw abortion before many people even know they’re pregnant. While that ban, HB 481, was permanently (and thankfully!) blocked by a federal judge in July 2020, and abortion is still legal in the state, Georgia continues to have some of the most severe restrictions on abortion in the United States.

Everyone should be able to decide if, when, how, and with whom they start or grow a family.
