Rep. Ritchie Torres is the first openly gay Afro-Latinx Member of Congress. Prior to winning his 2020 bid to represent New York’s 15th Congressional District, he was the New York City councilmember for the 15th district.
Torres is an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, affordable housing, and equitable healthcare access. In 2018, on the New York City Council, he voted for a bill prohibiting employment discrimination and discriminatory harassment and violence based on an individual’s reproductive health decisions.
NARAL is delighted that Torres is now in Congress, where he will fight to protect and expand reproductive freedom for every body.
